- Best overall: Sliquid Organics, glycerin-free and made with organic aloe and botanicals.
- Best if aloe bothers you: Good Clean Love BioNude, a plant-cellulose, hypoallergenic gel.
- Best preservative-free: pjur med Sensitive.
- Persistent burning, itching or pain is worth a clinician visit, not a new lube.
Sensitive skin reacts to the little things: fragrance, flavor, preservatives, sweeteners and sometimes even aloe. A good lube for sensitive skin keeps the ingredient list short and clear, and says what it leaves out.
We looked for fragrance-free, paraben-free and glycerin-free labels, plus a gentle, pH-conscious feel. Eight different formulas made the list. Hypoallergenic is the maker's own claim, so read the full ingredient list, and stop using any product that causes irritation or burning. If you also deal with dryness, see our menopause and dryness picks.

What the lab research says about gentleness
Gentleness is not only about ingredients. The World Health Organization's 2012 advisory note says lubricant osmolality should ideally be 380 mOsm/kg or less, with an interim limit of 1,200, because very concentrated products can irritate tissue. It also says most commercial lubricants measure 2,000 to 6,000.
In that same study, Sliquid Organic (106 mOsm/kg) and Good Clean Love (269) were among the lowest. These are formulations from around 2012, and brands change recipes, so use the numbers as context only. WHO also notes parabens are common preservatives that can cause irritation or sensitization in some people, though the FDA says it has no information that parabens in cosmetics affect human health.

Questions
What is the best lube for sensitive skin?
Look for a short, fragrance-free ingredient list that is paraben-free and, if glycerin bothers you, glycerin-free. Compare the picks above and patch-test a small area first.
Is glycerin bad for sensitive skin?
Glycerin is a common ingredient and many people tolerate it. Evidence linking it to yeast infections is limited, but some prefer glycerin-free formulas as a precaution.
Can I be allergic to aloe lube?
Some people react to aloe or botanical extracts. A plant-cellulose formula such as BioNude is an alternative.
Are silicone lubes good for sensitive skin?
Many people with sensitivity prefer pure silicone because the formulas are short and fragrance-free. See our silicone picks.
When should I see a doctor?
If burning, itching or pain persists after changing products, see a clinician to rule out other causes.
What should I avoid if I have sensitive skin?
Fragrance, flavors, warming or tingling additives and, for some people, glycerin or parabens. Choose a short ingredient list and patch test first.
