Überlube vs Wet Platinum: two silicone favorites

Überlube vs Wet Platinum: compare two best-known silicone lubes on ingredients, sizes, condom and toy rules, and who each one suits.

Updated October 2026 · 4 min read

In short
  • Both are silicone-based, waterproof and described by their makers as long-lasting and non-sticky.
  • Überlube leans on a minimalist, vitamin E formula, travel kits and an "OBGYN recommended" claim.
  • Wet Platinum is the value pick with bottles from 1 oz up to a 128 oz refill, and a hypoallergenic, paraben-free label.
  • Neither is meant for silicone toys. Wet's listing says "non-silicone toys" explicitly.

Überlube vs Wet Platinum is a close call. Silicone lubricants share a lot of DNA, so the choice between two good ones usually comes down to packaging, price per ounce and small label differences. Überlube and Wet Platinum are two of the most searched, so we put them side by side using what each maker states on its listing.

We do not run lab tests, so any statement about how a product feels comes from the label, not from us. Where independent research exists, we use it and say what it covers. For the wider category see silicone lubricants.

What each brand emphasizes

Überlube's listing stresses a silky glide that lasts much longer than water-based lube, waterproof use in the shower, bath or pool, and a non-sticky feel. It adds vitamin E, lists use for vaginal and anal play, and says the formula is OBGYN recommended. The brand also markets it to runners and cyclists as an anti-chafe product, which is an unusual extra.

Wet Platinum's listing calls it the original performance silicone, with a velvety glide that stays slick for hours and a hypoallergenic, colorless, oil-free and paraben-free formula. It says a little goes a long way and that clean-up is easy. Both are labelled for vaginal and anal use.

A note on "recommended" claimsStatements such as OBGYN recommended come from the maker and are not independent tests. Treat them as marketing, and use ingredient lists and your own comfort as the real guide.

Independent evidence on Wet Platinum

Wet Platinum shows up in a peer-reviewed lab study. Dezzutti and colleagues tested 10 water-based gels and 2 silicone products on tissue and for activity against HIV-1. Six of the ten water-based gels were hyperosmolar, and those gels reduced tissue viability. The two silicone products, including Wet Platinum, were among the safest in the study's testing algorithm, together with two near-iso-osmolar water gels.

This is useful context, but it is narrow. The study covers a formulation from around 2012 and a laboratory model, not everyday use, and it did not test Überlube. Silicone has no water phase, so osmolality is not a relevant measure for it, which is partly why it scores well on that test.

Sizes, travel and value

Pack format is where the two diverge most. In our catalogue, Überlube has 18 listings, most of them travel kits in a range of colors, plus 55 ml and 112 ml bottles and home-and-travel bundles. If you want a discreet, hand-bag-friendly tube, that is its strength.

Wet Platinum has 9 listings in our catalogue, from a 1 oz bottle and 3-packs to bottles of 4.2, 9, 16, 32 and 128 fl oz. For couples who use silicone often, or for anyone who buys for a shared household, the larger bottles are the practical edge. We do not quote prices here because they change daily.

Practical rules for both

  • Condoms: silicone is listed as compatible with latex by the WHO advisory note. Check the label if you use polyurethane or other non-latex condoms.
  • Toys: avoid silicone toys. Use a toy-safe water-based lube instead.
  • Fabrics: silicone can mark some fabrics, so wash with soap and use a towel if you use a lot.
  • Amount: start with a few drops; both makers say a little goes a long way.
  • Dryness: if you have persistent dryness or pain, speak with a clinician.

If you are new to silicone, our guide to how to choose a lubricant explains where it fits next to other bases, and water-based vs silicone covers the trade-offs.

Pick of the two

VerdictBoth are strong, no-fuss silicone choices. Pick Überlube if you value a travel-ready kit, a minimalist unscented formula and the OBGYN-recommended positioning. Pick Wet Platinum if you want a hypoallergenic-labelled silicone in a bigger, better-value bottle and you want to see it in published safety testing. Keep either away from silicone toys. Both are described as latex-safe by their makers, and as silicone lubes they are long-lasting but need soap for clean-up. Wet Platinum carries a hypoallergenic label, which some people with sensitive skin look for.
